Matt Drake is an associate in the firm's Knoxville office. Matt has extensive experience litigating matters in state and federal court, including multiple jury trials and numerous bench trials. His practice is primarily focused in the areas of premises liability defense, nuisance law and construction law; however, Matt also practices in personal injury defense and workers’ compensation defense.
Matt is a graduate of the University of Tennessee College of Law and Lee University. Additionally, Matt graduated from the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General’s Legal Center and School in May 2015. Matt is a veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom III, where he served as a Scout (19D) with the U.S. Army. He currently serves as a Judge Advocate (27A) with the Tennessee Army National Guard.
When not practicing law, Matt enjoys spending time with his wife and son. He is an avid golfer and enjoys spending as much time as he can in the East Tennessee outdoors fishing, hiking and running.
Matt litigates disputes involving commercial and residential construction projects. In his capacity as a construction attorney, Matt has represented property owners, material providers/suppliers, subcontractors and general contractors in cases pending in both federal and state courts. His clients range from local sole proprietorships to international corporations. In addition to representing clients in litigated matters, Matt also counsels clients during the planning phase of construction projects to mitigate the risk of future disputes.
Recently, Matt represented a contractor in a residential construction dispute that was tried over a six day period. At the conclusion of proof, Matt obtained a directed verdict for his client. This is the second consecutive defense verdict obtained by Matt on behalf of his clients during recent jury trials. Matt has also prevailed in numerous bench trials and has successfully argued before the Tennessee Supreme Court Workers’ Compensation Panel.

Matt is proud to have had the opportunity to volunteer with several outstanding organizations, including Habitat for Humanity, Saturday Bar, the Boys and Girls Club of America, the Hope Initiative and Wills for Heroes. Matt continues to work with a variety of non-profit organizations and is on active drill status as a staff judge advocate with the Tennessee Army National Guard.
